Panpa Bulletin : May 2012
Publication of The Newspaper Works A$995 NZ $12 May 2012 PRINTPOSTAPPROVED:239556/00015 A NEW era of seven-day rosters is being introduced in newsrooms, heralding a change of working conditions for journalists. Reporters and sub-editors will face the most significant roster changes. Some colleagues, such as photographers, graphic artists and online producers have worked seven-day rosters for several years. The change reflects consumer demands for news on multi-platforms. New rosters are to come in at News Limited, the Fairfax-owned Newcastle Herald and – for limited projects – at APN News & Media’s Kiwi flagship, the New Zealand Herald and Herald on Sunday. News Ltd will begin seven-day edito- rial rosters at The Advertiser and Sunday Mail in Adelaide, South Australia. The change is part of the company’s restructure to a “seven-day strategy” with other sites to follow, said News Ltd chief executive Kim Williams. The company is also looking at a significant revamp of editorial operations, possibly cen- tralising many common content operations nationally, rather than replicating tasks at each metro. News Ltd executives would not comment on the restructure of editorial operations, saying it was too early to provide details.
