Newspaper of the Year : 2011 Newspaper of the Year
www.pneb.com.au Recycling is just the beginning The Publishers National Environment Bureau and its members operate in an increasingly complex world, where thankfully the protection of our environment and the sustainability of our industries and resources are crucial issues for all of us. Because of this, the publishing industry has a far broader focus than its initial aims and the work of PNEB clearly reflects this. Our objectives go well beyond simply meeting paper recycling targets and include extended producer responsibility, minimising energy usage and water consumption in production, the diversion of waste from landfill, greenhouse gas reduction and reducing the publishing industry’s impact on climate change. In addition to this, our members use sustainably managed resources ie. no eucalypt or native hard wood species. Australia has exceeded annual targets for recycling rates in each and every year since 1990; a record of which we can all be proud. Today we recycle more than 78% of available newspaper, the best result in the world. It’s good news ... What do you know?
