Panpa Bulletin : March 2007
Outstanding Classi ed Advertising Sales Executive Recipient: Irene Sellars, Classified Sales Casual, The Examiner, Launceston, Tasmania. Some of the Judges' comments: "With 22 years experience, Irene Sellars demon- strates the qualities that make a news- paper advertising sales professional as opposed to simply a sales person. She is sincere; she understands her prod- uct, her market and her customers. She has demonstrated that she knows how to tailor her newspapers various offerings to suit her customers business needs -- not just to make a quick sale." Outstanding Display Advertising Sales Executive Recipient: Valentina Trifunov, Key Account Manager, The Age, Melbourne Some of the judges' comments: "Valentina's commitment to her role and her clients is very evident. Feedback from clients and colleagues clearly supports this. Valentina's sales results have been consistently brilliant, generating new revenues while grow- ing her existing accounts." Highly commended: Nathan Birch, Key Account Manager, Blacktown Advocate, Parramatta, NSW Excellence in Advertising Management Recipient: Mary-Anne Beckers, Real Estate Sales Manager, Central Coast Express Advocate & Lake Macquarie News, West Gosford, NSW Some of the judges' comments: "Making the advertising work, with its com- plex systems of deadlines, editorial to advertising ratios, column centimetre yields, colour and special charges, tar- geting of special features and reader- ship sections and making budget are all part of this complex matrix -- and all of this has to be done in management while keeping an eye on existing busi- ness, territories, media competitors and new business opportunities! This year's winner has demon- strated all of the above qualities in quantum. As an example, 90 percent achieve- ment in new business and 11.2 percent revenue increase over budget are some of the KPI's that our winner, Mary-Ann Beckers has demonstrated. This is par- ticularly significant in that Ms Beckers works in the real estate sector, which has been in a slump for almost a year now, yet she still managed to record commendable growth. She has demonstrated strong leadership capabilities and a 'can-do' attitude to her work including develop- ing and implementing new advertising strategies and systems. Highly commended: Belinda MacPherson, Category Manager, Cumberland Newspaper Group, Parramatta, NSW. Mary-Anne Beckers -- Cumberland Advertising Excellence Awards These awards recognise excellence achieved by newspaper sales executives and managers.
