Panpa Bulletin : June 2006
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS 2006 HEGARTY PRIZE Entries are now open for the prestigious PANPA 2006 Hegarty Prize, which recognises the management potential in young newspaper executives. The prize was established in 1987 in memory of Patrick Hegarty, Executive Director of PANPA (1983-1986). THE PRIZE: The Hegarty Prize is a round-the-world trip to study any aspect of newspaper operations. The total value is up to A$8000, which is to be used towards fares and expenses. The winner must make a trip of at least 14 days. PANPA will assist with introductions for the winner and in planning the trip, which will be designed to expose the individual to newspaper techniques in other countries. The trip must be completed by June 30, 2007. The winner will also receive an engraved plaque and the winner's newspaper will receive the PANPA Hegarty Prize perpetual plaque to display for the next year. The winner will be required to give a presentation about their trip at the PANPA 2007 Annual Conference to be held in August. Nominations must be endorsed by the general manager, managing director or CEO of the newspaper. Each PANPA newspaper member may make only one nomination. Judging will be based purely on the information on the entry form and any additional information the nominator provides including the nominee's management potential and previous development. It is therefore crucial that this information clearly demonstrates the strengths and achievements of the person nominated. Nominees should be well advanced on the management ladder and should have displayed signifcant personal and professional development. As a guide, the age range of nominees should be from 27 to 35 years. Eligibility for the Prize is open to executives in all newspaper departments and previous nomination is not a disqualifcation. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at the PANPA Newspaper of the Year Awards Dinner at the Pavilion Convention Centre, Conrad Jupiters, Gold Coast, Queensland. The nominating newspaper must be prepared to send the winner to the conference to receive the prize and to present at the 2007 PANPA Annual Conference. (The nominator -- but not the candidate -- will be advised prior to the conference). SPECIFIC CRITERIA: (please tick the boxes and use as an entry checklist). q Nominators must complete the attached entry form and provide detailed supporting material. q Entries must include a photograph of the nominee on a CD as a jpeg or PDF (at no less than 300dpi). q Nominations must be endorsed by the general manager, managing director or CEO of the newspaper. q Each PANPA Newspaper member may make only one nomination per Hegarty Prize.
