Prior to this, he served as Factiva's sales director, Asia Pacific and has more than 15 years of sales and management experience. He was recruited to the company from Reuters. In addition to Bruce Macfarlane's appointment to managing director, Factiva has appointed Andy Rowe as sales director, Asia Pacific. Mr. Rowe has been with Factiva since 1999 and has been promoted from the position of director, Asia Pacific, Customer Development Centre & Customer Service. CLARE Hart, Chief Executive Officer of Factiva, has been appointed as President of Dow Jones Enterprise Media Group and Executive Vice President of Dow Jones. Claude Green, currently Deputy CEO of Factiva, will become Interim CEO until a successor is named. Hart became President and CEO of Factiva in 2000 and has guided the company to a leading position in providing essential news and business information. "The success I have had in helping the company achieve its leadership position in the industry is the result of great customers, excellent partners and especially the talent of Factiva's leaders and employees who push the edge of innovation every day," said Hart. "Although I will miss working with this incredible group of people, I'm excited about this new opportunity at Dow Jones." dow Jones take hart higgins takes on new role FAIRFAX Digital, the online di- vision of John Fairfax Holdings Limited, today announced the appointment of David Higgins to the role of online editor for smh. com.au. Mike van Niekerk, manag- ing editor of smh.com.au and theage.com.au, sees Higgins as one Fairfax's rising stars. "David is one of the brightest young journalists in the coun- try today," he said. "Not only that, his editorial leadership and management skills match pre- cisely the needs of the moment: to lead Australia's leading online news site into important and far- reaching expansions." Higgins has successfully worked in several senior roles at The Sydney Morning Her- ald, including as a deputy chief of staff, IT section editor, business features writer and founding editor of the paper's youth section, Radar. He takes over from Stephen Hutcheon, who is now overseeing development and expansion of the online technol- ogy sections of smh.com.au and theage.com.au. Higgins began his career in journalism as a News Limited cadet, but subsequently moved to The Sydney Morning Herald. He has now worked with Fairfax for more than 10 years and last year completed a Masters in Business Administration at Syd- ney's University of Technology. Higgins will focus on breaking news as it happens throughout the day to meet the increasing demand for immediacy by the Australian public. He will make full use of the expanding range of reporting mechanisms available to the smh.com.au team. These include news articles, blogs, fo- rums and rich media such as video and interactive flash-based reports. BERNADETTE Courtney has been appointed an assistant editor of The Dominion Post, Wellington, with responsibilities for overseeing of news, edito- rial training, staffing issues, and special projects. Courtney was formerly chief reporter of the newspaper for three and a half years and for three years at The Dominion before the merger with the then Evening Post. She trained at the London College of Printing.
